Take in South Florida's breathtaking coast
At Sailfish Point, there is, quite literally, water everywhere. The waters of the Gulf Stream teem with dolphin, wahoo, and kingfish in addition to the celebrated local sailfish. And for light-tackle anglers, the St. Lucie Inlet and the Indian River offer up tarpon, snook, redfish, and sea trout.
The Sailfish Point Marina and Yacht Club is one of the largest bulkheaded, privately owned marinas in Florida. The private, full-service, deepwater marina offers 77 slips and can accommodate vessels up to 125 feet in length. An additional 45 dry slips are available for personal watercraft and boats up to 27 feet to be stored on trailors in the parking lot, with the Marina staff providing launch and recovery services. The easy access and incredible quality of the Sailfish Point Marina and Yacht Club prompted Links magazine to name it one of seven “Best for Boating” communities—selected from premier properties all across the country.
Charters, private cruises, daytrips and fishing tournaments can all be arranged through the professional staff. Whether they fish or just cruise, most residents appreciate the fast access to water. With the Bahamas only 75 miles to the east, many enjoy a fun cruise to the islands. Others cruise on the Indian River lagoon, the St. Lucie River or through the Okeechobee Waterway to the Gulf of Mexico for a day trip. Residents love their life on the coast at Sailfish Point.
Sailfish Point Yacht Club
The Yacht Club was formed in 1986 by members who shared a passion for being on the beautiful waterways that surround Sailfish Point. The club today has nearly 300 family memberships, or more than 50% of the families living at Sailfish Point. Its mission is to be the boating, fishing, yachting and social club of choice for all members of the Sailfish Point Community. All residents of Sailfish Point can join the Yacht Club, you do not need to own a boat to belong.
The Yacht Club is most active from October to May, and offers the following activities:
Fishing events include offshore and inshore fishing tournaments, instructional seminars and adventure fishing trips to world class fishing destinations in the Bahamas, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, and Panama.
Overnight Cruises include short overnight cruises to Florida locations such as Palm Beach, Miami and Cape Canaveral, as well as longer trips to the Florida Keys, Florida West Coast or the Bahamas. At stops along the way there are planned activities which can include golf, touring, shopping, docktail parties and fine dining. Some members join portions of these trips by auto or plane if they are unable to travel by boat for the duration.
Day Cruises to nearby private clubs, waterfront restaurants and scenic raft up locations are scheduled monthly. Members have organized raft ups to watch special events such as the Stuart Air Show, Stuart Speedboat Races and Sailing Regattas at the US Sailing Center in Jensen Beach.
Sailing members actively participate with local sailing organizations such as the US Sailing Center of Martin County and the St Lucie Sailing Club.
Kayak group trips are organized monthly. Some originate from the Sailfish Point Marina and explore local waters. Other times members take a fleet of kayaks by trailer or motorboat to locations as far away as Jupiter or Fort Pierce and explore more distance salt water and fresh water locations.
Group Tours and Educational Trips have been scheduled each season to nearby attractions that are of interest to boaters such as the Navy SEAL Museum, Hutchinson Island House of Refuge, Florida Oceanographic Society and Jupiter Lighthouse Museum. Eco-tours with noted marine experts have been held in the St Lucie, Fort Pierce and Jupiter Inlets, as well as on the St Lucie River and the Indian River Lagoon.
